Promote the French financial markets
AMAFI's remit is to help promote and develop investment services and investment banking in the French financial markets:
- Represent, promote and defend the collective interests of our members and ensure that they operate within an appropriate framework
- Put forward the industry's views and opinions to third parties, especially public and supervisory authorities, and contribute to the development of the regulatory framework - Foster collective analysis and inform our members about issues of general interest
- Develop close cooperation and dialogue with our sister organisations in Europe and internationally.
Represent and defend members' interests
AMAFI's top priority is to ensure that the operating framework is appropriate to our members' activities. Financial activities are usually heavily regulated in an effort to maintain investor confidence and prevent systemic risk. These constantly evolving regulations apply to all companies that carry on one or more of these businesses. AMAFI seeks and promotes solutions that will deliver an operating framework suitable for its members' needs.
Furthermore, for those of its members that have adopted the national collective bargaining agreement for the securities industry, AMAFI represents their interests as employers.
Put forward the industry's views
Our role is to voice the views and opinions of the industry on key developments in securities markets and to ensure that the relevant bodies take those views into account.
We take an active part in discussions and work programmes involving financial market activities at the domestic, European and international level. And, as the operating framework for these activities undergoes deep-seated changes, we play our part by influencing regulations in the preparatory stages and by helping firms adapt to the resulting rules.
AMAFI is a member of AFECEI, which oversees investment firms and credit institutions in France. It is also a founder member of the International Council of Securities Associations (ICSA) and of the European Forum of Securities Associations (EFSA). Furthermore, it has been accepted as an affiliate member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
Inform our members
AMAFI is a forum for debate and research. It serves its members by keeping them up to speed on issues of interest to them, enabling them to tailor their strategies for coping with change in the working environment and to manage their routine business more effectively. We organise lectures and conferences on current events and publish guidance on topical matters.
We can also assist members with the legal, tax or compliance-related aspects of legal proceedings in which they may be involved. In such cases, we offer a collective viewpoint.
Discuss and make proposals through standing committees and special working groups
As a platform for debate and advocacy, AMAFI takes positions on matters of common interest. We do this through committees and working groups recruited from the personnel of our member firms. Standing committees address legal, tax, compliance and market-related questions on an ongoing basis. In addition, special working groups are set up to tackle topical issues as the need arises. Our aim is to provide members with analytical tools that help them take strategic positions on changes in their business environment.
