{"id":1833,"date":"2024-06-07T10:48:02","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T08:48:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/who-are-we\/"},"modified":"2024-12-04T16:54:11","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T15:54:11","slug":"who-are-we","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.amafi.fr\/en\/who-are-we\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group triangle-top-bottom green has-darkblue-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-47407376282c0b9aaa628eb07e4d73bf is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5);padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5)\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Association fran\u00e7aise des march\u00e9s financiers (AMAFI) is the professional organisation that represents those working in the securities industry and financial markets in France.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting the diversity of firms and activities involved in the sector, AMAFI promotes the development of robust, efficient and competitive capital markets that play a vital role in financing economic activity, allocating savings and supporting growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generating ideas and analyses for a vital industry, AMAFI works in all areas of activity on regulated, unregulated, primary and secondary financial markets for both cash and derivative products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#82ccfa7d\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A brief history<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI\u2019s story began with the reform introduced by the Securities Exchanges Act of 22 January 1988, which replaced the officially appointed brokers, known as <em>agents de change<\/em>, with commercial enterprises called <em>soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de bourse<\/em>, or exchange member firms. At that time, the main powers of the CSAC, the committee representing <em>agents de change<\/em>, were divided among three bodies: <em>Conseil des Bourses de Valeurs<\/em> (CBV), for the regulation and oversight of the market and its participants; <em>Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Bourses Fran\u00e7aises<\/em> (SBF), responsible for organising the markets; and <em>Association Fran\u00e7aise des Soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de Bourse<\/em> (AFSB), which represented the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1996, this legal framework was overhauled by the Financial Activity Modernisation Act, which introduced the new legal category of entreprise d\u2019investissement, or investment firm. AFSB accordingly changed its name to <em>Association Fran\u00e7aise des Entreprises d\u2019Investissement<\/em> (French Association of Investment Firms \u2013 AFEI)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 19 June 2008, AFEI became <em>Association Fran\u00e7aise des March\u00e9s Financiers<\/em> (AMAFI) to show that the Association acts on behalf of all market participants, whatever their operational status.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group bg-white-70-lg-center | mb-5 has-darkblue-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-225959c8777c6e99c976efe60611b94c is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5);padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5)\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Represent and advocate for the interests of market participants in France<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work towards and promote a regulatory framework tailored to members\u2019 needs and built to support the economy, by conveying the industry\u2019s views and opinions to the relevant domestic, European and international institutions and authorities. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide members with analytical tools so they can position themselves strategically with respect to changes in the operating environment. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support members in adapting to new regulations. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Inform members<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Operating as a forum for discussion and analysis, AMAFI keeps members abreast of everything that affects their professional environment and the day-to-day running of their business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI organises conferences on issues likely to be of interest to members and publishes a broad range of documents on topical issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-right is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-d445cf74 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button wp-block-button-primary\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amafi.fr\/en\/publications\/\">Go to our publications<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Taking part in the public debate<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In France, the usefulness of financial markets is frequently called into question, even as their key role in financing economic activity is set to grow as part of the effort to fund the transition to a more sustainable and prosperous economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI\u2019s communication efforts therefore hinge on helping the public at large to understand the role that financial markets play and the ways in which they are useful both to society and to the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These efforts are pursued through a variety of channels, including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ongoing ties to the mainstream and specialised press. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/supplementsamafi-revue-banque\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/supplementsamafi-revue-banque\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partnership with Revue Banque magazine<\/a><\/strong>, which has led to the co-publication of 25 special issues since 2011. The release of each issue is followed by a public debate. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Educational initiatives aimed at explaining how markets work and showcasing the careers on offer in the industry. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#82ccfa7d\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Educational activities targeting wider audiences <\/strong> <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI is rolling out tools to help people understand the markets, tailored to audiences broader than its traditional professional audience. The first of these is a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLwtwssB_clnMrHZy0mZSh8Ft37n346HcH\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLwtwssB_clnMrHZy0mZSh8Ft37n346HcH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collection of Professor Spot<\/a><\/strong> <strong>videos <\/strong>aimed at a young audience, designed with the joint body OPCO Atlas.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI also works to promote careers in financial markets. In addition to regularly attending trade shows and events, the Association created a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DdztN-dun8Y&amp;list=PLwtwssB_clnMGwOQVC0P3tCqUk9ovy-KI\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DdztN-dun8Y&amp;list=PLwtwssB_clnMGwOQVC0P3tCqUk9ovy-KI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Success Story videos<\/strong><\/a>, and teamed up with labour representatives to publish 28 individual fact sheets describing different jobs in the industry. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group bg-white-70-lg-center | mb-5 has-darkblue-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-fde64c1a20bd3f9ec08d0a653fd9a90f is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-7);padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--spacing-5)\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI works under the authority of its Board, through <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/comites-et-commissions\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"847\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2 commissions<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/comites-et-commissions\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"847\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9 standing committees<\/a><\/strong> and dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/groupes-de-travail\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1224\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>working groups<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>in close cooperation with its members, other associations and market participants, and its international counterparts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the domestic level, our primary talking partners include the Treasury, the securities regulator (AMF), and the prudential oversight and resolution authority (ACPR). AMAFI is also active at European and international levels, dealing with the European Commission, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the European Banking Authority (EBA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMAFI is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medef.com\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">French Business Confederation (MEDEF)<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/observatoire-financement-entreprises.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/observatoire-financement-entreprises.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Market Financing Observatory (OFEM)<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afecei.asso.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">French Association of Credit Institutions and Investment Firms (AFECEI)<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Association is also the representative employers&#8217; organisation for the financial market activities sector (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amafi.dev39.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/ccnm.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"2344\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Convention Collective Nationale des Activit\u00e9s de March\u00e9s Financiers &#8211; CCNM<\/a><\/strong>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#82ccfa7d\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>European initiatives<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Through its European and International Affairs Division, AMAFI is active at European level, where the operating framework for its members is mainly shaped. AMAFI opened an office in Brussels in 2023 to stay in touch with European initiatives that have a major bearing on the industry. It also set up a European Action Committee, which steers AMAFI\u2019s initiatives to lobby for business interests with the European institutions.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To boost its effectiveness, AMAFI coordinates its work with sister associations abroad.
